On 8 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Krit Tankanarat, in his capacity as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA), led an ASEAN diplomatic delegation on a visit to the headquarters of Mercado Libre. The delegation studied the company’s business model in e-commerce and financial technology (FinTech), and explored avenues to promote cooperation among the private sectors of Thailand, ASEAN, and Argentina—particularly through the use of digital platforms to support the regional expansion of goods and services.

On this occasion, the ACBA delegation received a briefing on Mercado Libre’s operations from Mr. Martín Waserman, Senior Director and Head of Government Relations. Mercado Libre is a leading technology company in Latin America that has developed a comprehensive digital ecosystem covering online commerce, advertising, and credit services. It is also the first Latin American company to be included in the NASDAQ 100 Index, and currently employs more than 114,000 people across the Latin American region.

The visit reflects ASEAN’s commitment to advancing cooperation in the digital economy, innovation, and business connectivity among ASEAN, Argentina, and Latin America, in support of sustainable growth in the future.
