In order to use Thai public documents in Uruguay, they must go through a validation process. This process typically involves a series of legalizations by various authorities, along with the appropriate translation. Documents issued in Thailand can only be legalized at the Embassy of Paraguay in New Delhi, India or the Embassy of Chile in Thailand for validity in Paraguay. In this context, legalization by the Royal Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires is not required.

Steps in Thailand

• You must request the original document from the office of the authority responsible for its issuance. This may involve one or more entities depending on the type of document. It is therefore recommended to consult the corresponding authority in advance to confirm the specific steps before proceeding. For example:

• In the case of judicial documents (such as a court ruling or court order), you must request a certified copy from the court to certify the authenticity of the document.
• In the case of business registration certificates or book of shareholders’ registration, you must request a certified copy from the Department of Business Development of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand to certify its authenticity.

IMPORTANT: Letter of Marital Status Certification, Life Certificate for Pensioner, Police Clearance Certificate, and Powers of Attorney are valid for 6 months.

• If the original document is issued in Thai language, it must first be translated into English language, either by the applicant or by a professional translator. The translator must hold Thai nationality or a university degree (or equivalent) in Thai language.

Note: It is also possible to request certified copies of 30 types of civil registry public documents in English language for use abroad directly from relevant metropolitan or provincial district offices. These include: Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Divorce Certificate, Certificate of Registration of Family Status, Certificate of First Name Change, Certificate of Surname Change, and Death Certificate.

• You must present the original document, together with its English translation, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, specifically at the Nationality and Legalization Division of the Department of Consular Affairs (located on Chaeng Watthana Road), or at certain provincial passport offices that offer legalization services via the platform https://qlegal.consular.go.th/. The Ministry will certify the authenticity of the original document and, if applicable, the English translation as well.

• Once legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the full set of documents must be presented to the Embassy of Chile in Thailand (located at 193/67, Lake Rajada Office Complex, 17th Floor Unit A, Ratchadapisek Road, Klongtoey, Bangkok) or the Embassy of Paraguay in New Delhi, so that the Embassy can certify the signatures and seals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

Steps in Paraguay  

• The full set of documents legalized in the previous step must be translated into Spanish language by a sworn public translator, whose signature must then be legalized by the General Secretariat of the Supreme Court of Justice of Paraguay.

• The set of documents, including its Spanish translation, must be presented to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay to complete the legalization process, certifying the signatures of the official from the Embassy of Chile in Thailand or the Embassy of Paraguay in New Delhi and from the General Secretariat of the Supreme Court of Justice of Paraguay.

• The complete set of documents may then be taken to its intended destination within Paraguay.
