Divorce Registration at Different Registrar Offices (The Other Divorced Party Is Currently in Thailand)
Important Information when Applying for a Thai Divorce Certificate at Different Registrar Offices
- Divorce at Different Registrar Officesrefers to the divorce where both parties agree to the divorce but they cannot travel to the same registrar’s office to file for the divorce.
Both parties must agree on which party will file the divorce petition first and which registrar’s office will handle the registration. The divorce will be considered complete once both registrar offices have successfully completed the registration.
- The divorced party residing in Argentina must file the divorce registration in person at
the Consular Section, Royal Thai Embassy.
- For individuals who registered their marriage before June 5, 2546 (2003 B.E.),
the divorced female must have a Thai passport and proof of Thai Civil Registration showing the use of the male’s last name when filling for divorce registration.
Two Types of Divorce at Different Registrar Offices
Type 1: One of the Divorced Parties Resides in Thailand and Initiates the Divorce Registration Process at the Registrar’s Office in Thailand
Registration Office 1: The Registrar’s Office in Thailand.
Registration Office 2: The Consular Section, Royal Thai Embassy, Buenos Aires, which will register the divorce and issue the divorce certificate.
Procedure:
- The party residing in Thailand initiates the divorce registration process at the registrar’s office in Thailand.
- The divorce documents will be sent to the Royal Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Once the Royal Thai Embassy receives the divorce documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they will contact the party residing in Argentina to proceed with the divorce registration in person at the Consular Section.
- On the day of registration, the Royal Thai Embassy will provide the divorce certificate to the party residing in Argentina. The Embassy will send another copy of the divorce certificate to the registrar’s office in Thailand through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the party residing in Thailand.
Required Documents:
- A Divorce Registration Application form (completed in both Thai and English)
- A passport and/or valid Thai national ID card. (If you are a foreign national, please provide your passport from your country).
- A Thai House Registration specifying the 13-digit national identification number.
- An original marriage certificate or a certified copy issued by the District/Amphoe office.
(If you do not have one, you must request a copy first).
Type 2: One of the Divorced Parties Resides in Argentina and Initiates the Divorce Registration Process at the Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires
Registration Office 1: The Consular Section, Royal Thai Embassy, Buenos Aires.
Registration Office 2: The Registrar’s Office in Thailand, which will register the divorce and issue the divorce certificate.
Procedure:
- The party residing in Argentina will initiate the divorce registration process at the Consular Section, Royal Thai Embassy, Buenos Aires.
- The divorce documents will be sent to the registrar’s office in Thailand through
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Once the registrar’s office in Thailand receives the divorce document, they will contact the party residing in Thailand to proceed with the divorce registration process.
- On the day of divorce registration, the registrar’s office in Thailand will issue the divorce certificate to the party residing in Thailand. They will send another copy of the divorce certificate to the Royal Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the party residing in Argentina.
Required Documents:
- A Divorce Registration Application form (completed in both Thai and English)
- A Divorce Decree signed by both parties.
- A copy of identification document of the party residing in Thailand and witnesses, duly certified by the District/Amphoe office or officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as
a copy of passport, Thai national ID card, Thai House Registration, name change certificate, etc.
- A Divorce Note for Registration at Different Registrar Offices’ form.
- A passport and/or valid Thai national ID card. (If you are a foreign national, please provide the passport from your country).
- A Thai House Registration specifying the 13-digit national identification number.
- An original marriage certificate or a certified copy issued by the District/Amphoe office.

Instructions for Filling out Documents
Filling out an Application for Divorce Registration
- A female party must include their maiden name before marriage in parentheses.
(Both Thai and English)
- The age must be written in full years, for example, age “30 years 7 months”, use age “30 years”.
Filling out the Divorce Decree
- When filling out the divorce agreement regarding property, children and title of the female party after the divorce; the party residing in Thailand and the witnesses must sign the document before the registrar and the registrar endorses and seal certifying the genuine signatures of the party and the witnesses (please leave the signature of the party residing in Argentina blank, the party will have to sign before the registrar at the Royal Thai Embassy).
- Divorce agreement regarding children must be filled out clearly by specifying the number of children, full name, date of birth, and the age of each child (in full years). If there are children who are not of legal age (less than 20 years of age), you must also specify the party that will have custody of the child after divorce.
- If there are no children together, specify "None".
- If you do not want to specify the divorce agreement regarding property, write “not specified”.
- If you do not want to specify other matters of the divorce agreement, write “None”.
