The ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA) extends its warmest congratulations to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on its accession as the 11th member state of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This historic moment, formalized at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, following the official granting of full membership status, marks a significant milestone in the evolution of our regional community.

The Summit also delivered key milestones across the region, including finalizing the Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) and holding the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit to mark the first Leaders’ meeting since the Agreement’s entry into force, and exploring ways to expand cooperation into emerging areas such as the green economy.

In Buenos Aires, ACBA is proud to represent this expanded and dynamic community. We look forward to introducing Timor-Leste to our friends and partners in Latin America, further enriching the economic and cultural tapestry and strengthening the collective voice of ASEAN in the region.
